German dockworkers across the country strike again

Nowadays schedule reliability 12,000 workers at German ports launched a third "warning strike" last Thursday after last-minute talks once again broke down. This 48-hour strike was the longest they have launched so far in their campaign for "a real wage increase".


The situation at Germany's ports was already dire, with yard density at Hamburg reaching 90% and ships experiencing berthing delays of up to 14 days.


In response to the ongoing disruption carriers may try to overland German cargo from Gdansk or Zeebrugge. Rotterdam and Antwerp are already experiencing congestion of their own so are unlikely to be able to accept additional discharges.


Aware that Rotterdam Union's plan for strike action on Wednesday 27July, 18th August and Saturday 20th August, which is set to cause significant disruption across the United Kingdom's rail network.
